Coders are the new rockstars

By Richie DembovskisMarch 7th, 2013BlogComments Off

Here’s an interesting video by Code.org, a non-profit foundation dedicated to growing computer programming education. In a rather inspirational video pulling out the big guns in the computer/online world (and Will.I.am), it stresses the importance to have coding taught in schools.

Obviously being a web design agency we totally agree this should now be a key part of education with the digital world we now live in. This video certainly will make some want to become a coder, with the “awesome” sound studio in the office, being able to skate through the corridors, work on a sunny Californian rooftop etc. Whilst this usually isn’t the case for 99.9% of the industry it does make a good case.

But coding certainly isn’t easy, being a designer in a design and web agency, I dabble with it myself but certainly it should be left in the hands of the experts with a computer science degree in their hands that eat, drink and sleep coding, it certainly is a science.

The digital world is the world we now live in and to understand the fundamentals of how these things work will need to become commonplace and soon.

Keeping it local – iDC rebrand McDermotts Civil Engineering

By Richie DembovskisJune 3rd, 2012BlogNo Comments

iDC were approached by McDermotts, a groundworks and civil engineering company based in Birmingham, in the summer of 2011 to embark on a rebrand and the creation of a new website that encapsulated who McDermotts are and what they do; but more importantly to give insight into the great team behind their name and its company values.

We began developing a mark that is distinctly McDermotts. The final logo design simply incapsulates what they do, the solid M with a highlight on the foundation of the mark is instantly recognisable and unique. It’s very rare such a simple mark can communicate exactly what a company does and as soon as it was created everyone involved knew it was the right identity for McDermotts.

Company director, Marie McDermott, states “Working with iDC has proved to be a refreshing experience that has led to positive results and favourable recognition from our staff, suppliers and customers.”

McDermotts new website is a hub of information covering every aspect of the Company. Working alongside top local photographer Steph Simmons, the new website has developed into one of iDC‘s biggest website projects and we are very proud of the results. See it for yourself here.

Please keep an eye out for a full case study on McDermotts coming soon on the iDC website.

Milk and two sugars please! iDC creates another microsite for Viking

By Richie DembovskisJune 1st, 2011BlogNo Comments

May was a busy month for us at iDC and one of the stand out projects we recently completed was for Viking, the UKs favourite stationery company. iDC worked collaboratively with the award winning, Birmingham based PR agency Smarts England to develop and build a campaign microsite called “The Great Office Cuppa”. The site featured an online survey system to find out if making a “cuppa” in the office helps you get up the career ladder.

The microsite also played it’s part as an awareness campaign, introducing Viking’s new brand which rolled out at the same time. In order to drive traffic to the site, we also created HTML emails which we’re sent out by Viking’s comms team.

All-in-all, the microsite was a great success and we are very pleased with the results. Take a look here.
